Points to consider when choosing a screw
To the untrained eye, a screw is as good as another, but those with a conscience have a little better opportunity to realize that choosing the proper screw for a particular job can mean the difference between a project and no.
The industrial and construction have literally hundreds of different types of screws and fasteners to select, each type for a particular purpose, for example, decking screws lubricated to drive fastest outdoor terrace, self drilling screws for the convenience of not having to make pilot holes and screw it work specifically with the mechanical properties plastics.
Before you can choose the best of a screw job, you should consider the features you want in a vice, such as:
* Is there need to be waterproof to prevent corrosion from moisture?
* Is the head of the screw should be flush with the material once it is screwed up?
* Is it the screws should be protected against vandalism or unauthorized removal?
* Is it the screws used in wood, metal or plastic maybe?
* What is the length of the screw is needed?
For the different types of equipment tends to be another screw type. Consider the following examples:
* Wood screws – Designed for better results in all kinds of hard wood, including MDF and particle board. small screws are less likely to split the wood, but if you use the larger screws and / or work near the end of a piece of wood, then it is often safer to drill a pilot hole.
Ground screws * – These deal with the issue of different types of expansion are therefore best used to protect wood bonded on steel supports. Made by a process that ensures a tough exterior, maintaining a hard and flexible basis.
* Self-drilling screws – designed for the convenience that only a screwdriver is needed. These screws drill their own holes and form their own mating threads to ensure the best fit on a single attempt.
* Screws Platform – especially designed to cope with external conditions with durable, protective layer.
* Frame bolts – Designed for fixing doors and windows PVC-U, wood or aluminum directly on masonry, without plugs or nylon ties.
A general rule for determining the appropriate time, you should seek a screw length which will allow two-thirds of its length to be integrated into the fixed material. For example, if you are a holder of 1-inch thickness of wood to a wooden post, then you should look to embed the 2-inch screw into position. Which means you need a length of 3-inch screw.
All suppliers are living well able to advise the appropriate screw for the job. The important thing is to understand that not all the screws are the same and use the right screws installation can mean safe, while the screw can mean a serious accident waiting to happen.
